# Create a new workspace from the switcher

> Open the workspace switcher and pick New workspace to start another workspace on the Free plan, with its own plan, credits, team, domains and billing. Each person can found up to 2 Free workspaces; paid ones are unlimited.

## Short answer

You can now create a workspace yourself. Open the workspace switcher at the top right of the dashboard and pick **New workspace**, give it a name, and you land in it straight away as its Admin, on the Free plan. Each workspace is billed separately and shares nothing with your others. A person can found up to 2 Free workspaces, counting the one created at sign-up; workspaces on a paid plan do not count, so there is no limit on those.

## What we shipped

Until now, the only way to reach a second workspace was an invitation from one of its admins. That suited teams, but not an agency with several clients or a business with several brands that wants each one kept apart.

### New workspace in the switcher

The workspace switcher now appears for anyone whose account has an email address, even if you belong to a single workspace. On mobile it sits in the profile drawer. Its last item is **New workspace**.

1. Open the switcher and pick **New workspace**
2. Give the workspace a name
3. Linkbreakers creates it on the Free plan, makes you its Admin and opens it

Creating a workspace works like a switch: the workspaces you were already in stay signed in, so you can move back to them from the switcher. If your email address is already verified, the new workspace does not need verifying again.

### Each workspace stands on its own

A workspace has its own plan, platform credits, allowances, team, custom domains and billing. Nothing is shared between two workspaces, so a client's links, visitors and analytics never sit next to another client's, and each one can be on the plan that suits it.

### The Free limit

A person can found at most 2 Free workspaces, and the one created at sign-up counts as one of them. These never count:

- Workspaces you were invited to
- Workspaces on a paid plan (Light, Pro or Enterprise), a trial or a sponsored plan

When you reach the limit, the dashboard says "You already created 2 Free workspaces. Upgrade one of them to a paid plan to create another." Upgrade one of your Free workspaces and you can create another. As long as the others are paid, there is no limit on how many workspaces you create.

Invitations work exactly as before and stay unlimited.

### In the API

`POST /v1/myself/workspaces` with a body such as `{"name": "Acme Coffee"}` creates the workspace and returns `accessToken`, `memberId`, `workspaceId` and `member` for it, the same shape as switching workspaces.

- It needs a dashboard session, or a full-access member token belonging to a person with an email address
- Workspace API tokens and tokens limited to scopes are refused
- Past the Free limit it answers `400` with the code `FREE_WORKSPACE_LIMIT_REACHED` and the limit in `metadata.limit`

It is not available as an MCP tool, because it issues a new access token. See [Working across multiple workspaces](/help/article/work-across-multiple-workspaces) for the full guide.

## Frequently asked questions

### Who can create a workspace?

Anyone whose Linkbreakers account has an email address. The switcher, and its **New workspace** item, appears for you even if you belong to one workspace.

### Is a new workspace billed separately?

Yes. It starts on the Free plan with its own credits and allowances. Upgrading it, or any other workspace, changes that workspace's plan only.

### I already have 2 Free workspaces. How do I create a third?

Upgrade one of your Free workspaces to a paid plan, then create the new one. Workspaces on a paid plan, a trial or a sponsored plan do not count toward the limit, and neither do workspaces you were invited to.

### Do I have to verify my email again?

No. If your email address is already verified, the new workspace does not need verifying.

### Should an agency use one workspace per client?

It can. A workspace per client keeps everything separate, including the plan and the bill. If you would rather keep every client in one workspace, put each client in a directory and [filter your analytics by directory](/help/article/filter-analytics-by-directory).
