Short answer

You can add up to 10 social media links to any Linkbreakers contact card. Paste the profile URL and the platform icon is detected automatically. You can also enable WhatsApp on the phone number so visitors can start a conversation with one tap. Social links appear as icons on the contact page and are embedded in the downloaded vCard file.

Quick summary

  • Add social links when creating a contact card or editing an existing one in the workflow editor
  • Paste any social media profile URL — the platform is detected automatically from the URL
  • Supported platforms: Instagram, LinkedIn, X (Twitter), Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, GitHub, WhatsApp, Medium, and generic websites
  • Social links display as compact, recognizable platform icons on the visitor-facing contact page
  • Social links are embedded as X-SOCIALPROFILE entries in the vCard (VCF) download
  • Enable WhatsApp on a phone number to add a WhatsApp icon that opens a direct conversation
  • Up to 10 social links per contact card

Social links on contact cards are different from the social links page workflow step. While the social links page is a standalone interactive step with its own layout and routing, social links on a contact card are part of the vCard itself — they enhance the contact information rather than replacing it.

When a visitor opens your contact card page, social links appear as a row of platform icons below the contact details (phone, email, website, address). Each icon links to the corresponding profile. When the visitor downloads the contact as a VCF file, the social links are embedded using the X-SOCIALPROFILE vCard extension, which many modern contact applications can read.

When creating a new contact card — either through the link creation flow or the workflow step editor — you'll find a Social Links section.

  1. Click Add Social Link to add a new entry
  2. Paste the full profile URL (e.g. https://instagram.com/yourprofile)
  3. The platform icon is detected automatically from the URL
  4. Repeat for each social profile you want to include
  5. Remove any link by clicking the trash icon next to it

There is no need to select a platform from a dropdown. Linkbreakers recognizes the platform from the URL domain automatically.

Open your contact card in the workflow editor, click Edit Contact Information, and scroll to the Social Links section. The same URL-based input is available. Save your changes and they take effect immediately — no need to regenerate QR codes.

Enabling WhatsApp on your phone number

If your phone number is also a WhatsApp number, check the Enable WhatsApp checkbox next to the phone field. This adds a WhatsApp icon to the social links row on the contact page. When visitors tap it, it opens a direct WhatsApp conversation using the wa.me deep link.

The regular phone link (tap to call) remains available separately. WhatsApp is treated as an additional way to reach you, not a replacement for the phone number.

Platform detection

Linkbreakers automatically detects the following platforms from the URL:

URL contains Platform detected
instagram.com Instagram
linkedin.com LinkedIn
twitter.com or x.com X (Twitter)
facebook.com or fb.com Facebook
youtube.com or youtu.be YouTube
tiktok.com TikTok
github.com GitHub
wa.me or whatsapp.com WhatsApp
medium.com Medium
Any other URL Generic website icon

When a visitor downloads the contact card as a VCF file, social links are stored using the X-SOCIALPROFILE vCard extension:

JavaScript
X-SOCIALPROFILE;type=instagram:https://instagram.com/yourprofile
X-SOCIALPROFILE;type=linkedin:https://linkedin.com/in/yourname

Most modern contact applications on iOS, Android, and desktop can read these entries and display them alongside other contact information.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many social links can I add to a contact card? Up to 10 social links per contact card. This applies to both the creation flow and the workflow step editor.

Do I need to select the platform manually? No. The platform is automatically detected from the URL you paste. You only need to provide the full profile URL.

What happens if the platform isn't recognized? If the URL domain doesn't match any known platform, a generic website/link icon is displayed.

Are social links included in the vCard download? Yes. They are embedded as X-SOCIALPROFILE entries in the VCF file, compatible with most modern contact applications.

What's the difference between social links on a contact card and the social links page step? The social links page is a standalone workflow step with its own layout, title, and description — it acts as a destination. Social links on a contact card are supplementary icons displayed alongside the contact information (phone, email, address) on the same card.

Does enabling WhatsApp remove the regular phone link? No. The phone number still appears as a clickable call link. WhatsApp is shown as an additional icon in the social links row.

Limits and caveats

  • Maximum 10 social links per contact card.
  • Platform detection relies on the URL domain. Custom or self-hosted social platforms will show a generic icon.
  • The X-SOCIALPROFILE vCard extension is widely supported but not universal. Some older contact applications may ignore these entries.
  • Feature availability and limits can vary by plan and workspace setup.
