# How to put several PDFs behind one QR code

> Build a menu page whose buttons each open a PDF from your media library, add Back to menu buttons on the pages behind it, and keep every document current without reprinting the QR code.

:::try-ai-prompt {"prompt":"Make a QR code that opens a menu with our price list, floor plans and site map. I'm attaching the three PDFs.","target":"assistant","description":"Attach the PDFs and the Assistant builds the menu, one button per document."}:::

## Short answer

Make the QR code open a [multi-link page](/help/article/what-is-a-multi-link-page): a menu with one button per document. Connect each button to its own [Open media step](/help/article/how-to-share-media-from-a-qr-code), and point each step at a PDF in your media library. A visitor scans, taps "Price list" and the PDF opens. To update a document later, replace its file in the media library; the QR code and the menu never change.

## Quick summary

- One QR code, one menu, one button per PDF
- Each button leads to an Open media step that opens one media from your library
- PDFs up to 25 MB; images and MP4 videos work the same way
- Group many documents into sub-menus, each with a "Back to menu" back button
- **Replace file** updates a document everywhere it is opened, with nothing to edit in the workflow
- Every opening shows in the link's activity timeline as **Media opened** with the document's name
- The Assistant can build the whole menu from PDFs you attach in the chat

## How it works

An Open media step is an exit step: the visitor goes straight to the PDF, which opens in their browser's viewer. Visitors who want another document use their browser's back button to return to the menu, which is why a flat menu needs nothing more.

When the documents are grouped, put a second multi-link page between the menu and the PDFs. That sub-menu is a page the visitor reaches after the menu, so its form offers a [back button](/help/article/how-to-add-a-back-to-menu-button): turn it on and label it "Back to menu".

| Step | Role |
|---|---|
| Multi-link page (menu) | The first page after the scan, one button per document or group |
| Multi-link page (sub-menu) | A group of documents, with a "Back to menu" back button |
| Open media | Opens one PDF, image or video from your media library |
| Thank you page | A page with only text, such as opening hours, and a "Back to menu" back button |

## Step-by-step

### Put the PDFs in your media library

Upload them in the **Media** section of the dashboard, or attach them in a chat with the [Assistant](/help/article/give-the-assistant-your-files). A PDF the library already has is not stored twice: the existing media is used.

### Build the menu

1. Create a link and open its workflow
2. Add a **multi-link page** after the link visit, with one button per document: "Price list", "Floor plans", "Site map"
3. Connect each button to its own **Open media** step
4. In each Open media step, click **Choose media** and pick the PDF
5. Save, download the QR code and scan it to test every button

### Group documents in a sub-menu

1. On the menu, connect a button such as "Floor plans" to a second multi-link page
2. Give that page one button per floor plan, each connected to its own Open media step
3. At the bottom of the sub-menu's form, turn on **Back button** and label it "Back to menu"
4. Scan and check that "Back to menu" returns to the menu

## Worked example: a home builder's sales center sign

A home builder puts one QR code on the sales center door. It opens a menu:

- **"Price list"** opens the current price list PDF
- **"Floor plans"** opens a sub-menu with one button per plan, each opening its PDF, and a "Back to menu" back button
- **"Site map"** opens the community site map PDF
- **"Opening hours"** opens a thank you page with the hours and a "Back to menu" back button

When prices change, someone opens **Media**, chooses **Replace file** on the price list and picks the new PDF. The door sign, the menu and its buttons stay as they are. See [how to keep a QR code's PDF up to date every week](/help/article/how-to-keep-a-qr-codes-pdf-up-to-date-every-week).

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I need one QR code per PDF?

No. One QR code opens the menu, and each button opens its own PDF.

### How do visitors get back to the menu after opening a PDF?

A PDF opens in the browser, so the browser's back button returns to the menu. Pages in between, such as sub-menus, can have a "Back to menu" back button.

### Can I see which PDF each visitor opened?

Yes. Each opening appears in the link's activity timeline as **Media opened** with the document's name, and the menu records which button was tapped.

### Can I mix PDFs with web links?

Yes. Connect a button to a redirect step for a web page or a document hosted elsewhere, such as a Google Drive link, and to an Open media step for a PDF in your library.

### Can the same PDF be behind several QR codes?

Yes. Several Open media steps can open the same media, and replacing its file updates all of them at once.

### Why is there no Back button option on my menu?

The menu is the first page after the scan, so there is nothing to go back to. The option appears on the pages behind it.

## Limits and caveats

- PDFs up to 25 MB, images up to 10 MB and MP4 videos up to 50 MB
- Every PDF counts toward your plan's media storage once, however many buttons open it
- An Open media step is an exit step: nothing runs after it, and it has no back button of its own
- How the PDF is displayed depends on the visitor's browser and device
- Media that an Open media step opens cannot be deleted until no step uses it
