# Why is my workspace paused? Verify your email address

> A free Linkbreakers workspace with no verified email address is paused 7 days after sign-up. What stops, what keeps working, and how to unpause it from the dashboard or the API.

## Short answer

Every new workspace has 7 days to verify an email address. A free workspace that has not done so by then is paused: the dashboard shows a "Verify your email to continue" screen and every API call answers `WORKSPACE_UNVERIFIED`. Your QR codes and links keep working for everyone who scans them. To unpause the workspace, open the link in the verification email. If you cannot find it, send a new one from the paused screen, the banner, or the API. The workspace unpauses the moment the link is opened.

## How it works

### The 7 days

Right after sign-up we send a verification email. Until a member of the workspace opens the link in it:

- The dashboard shows a banner with the date your workspace will be paused, and a button to send the email again.
- Two days before that date, every member whose email is not verified gets a reminder with a fresh link.
- The workspace works normally the whole time.

Paying workspaces and sandbox (test-mode) workspaces are never paused.

### When the workspace is paused

- **Dashboard:** every page shows the paused screen, with buttons to send a new verification email, contact support, switch to another of your workspaces, or sign out.
- **API, SDKs, MCP and the Assistant:** every call answers `403 WORKSPACE_UNVERIFIED`, except the few that lead out of the pause: signing in, reading your member and workspace, listing and switching workspaces, and requesting a verification email.
- **Visitors:** nothing changes. QR codes, short links, landing pages and forms keep working, and visits are still recorded.

Nothing is deleted. Once the email is verified, everything is exactly as you left it.

## Unpausing through the API

Agents and integrations get the full explanation in the error message, including the call that fixes it:

```json
{
  "codeType": "WORKSPACE_UNVERIFIED",
  "message": "This workspace is paused because no member verified their email address within 7 days of sign-up (paused since 2026-10-28). Nothing was changed. To unpause it, open the link in the verification email, or request a new one with POST /v1/auth/email/verification/request ...",
  "metadata": { "pausedAt": "2026-10-28T09:12:00Z" }
}
```

To send a new verification email, pass the address of a workspace member whose email is not verified yet:

```bash
curl -X POST https://api.linkbreakers.com/v1/auth/email/verification/request \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"email": "you@example.com"}'
```

This works with a dashboard session and with an API token, and through the MCP server as the `email_verification_request` tool. `GET /v1/member` returns the signed-in member's own address. Workspace responses carry `unverified_pause_at`, the date the pause starts, so an integration can warn ahead of time.

The request answers with a clear error when it cannot send:

| Code | Meaning |
|------|---------|
| `EMAIL_VERIFICATION_EMAIL_REQUIRED` | The `email` field is missing. |
| `EMAIL_VERIFICATION_NOT_A_MEMBER` | The address does not belong to a member of this workspace. |
| `EMAIL_ALREADY_VERIFIED` | The address is already verified, so no email was sent. |
| `EMAIL_VERIFICATION_TOO_SOON` | An email went to that address less than a minute ago. `metadata.retryAfterSeconds` says when to try again. |
| `EMAIL_VERIFICATION_DAILY_LIMIT` | 5 emails already went to that address today. |

## Limits and caveats

- One verification email per address per minute, and 5 per day.
- A verification link stays valid for 14 days. Requesting a new email does not cancel the earlier ones.
- Only members of the workspace can receive the email. Invite a teammate first if the address you want is not a member yet.
- A workspace that was never used and never verified is still removed after 21 days, as before.

## Frequently asked questions

### Will my QR codes stop working?

No. Pausing only affects the people managing the workspace, in the dashboard and through the API. Everyone who scans a QR code or opens a link is sent where they should go, and the visit is recorded.

### I never received the verification email

Check your spam folder first. Then press "Send a new verification email" on the paused screen. If it still does not arrive, contact support from the same screen and we will verify it for you.

### I verified my email but the workspace is still paused

Press "I've verified it" on the paused screen to reload. If it stays paused, the link may have been for another address. Contact support and we will look into it.
