# Working across multiple workspaces

> How one Linkbreakers account belongs to several workspaces: joining by invitation, the workspace switcher, per-workspace roles and sessions, MFA when switching, MCP clients, API tokens and what happens when you are removed.

## Short answer

One Linkbreakers account, identified by your email address, can belong to several workspaces. You join another workspace when one of its admins invites the email you already use: you are added right away and receive a "You've been added to" email, followed by the workspace name, whose link opens that workspace. Once you belong to two or more workspaces, a workspace switcher appears at the top right of the dashboard. Your role, your session and any MFA requirement are set per workspace, while your password and sign-in methods belong to your account and apply everywhere.

## Quick summary

- One account, one email, any number of workspaces you have been invited to
- You cannot create an extra workspace yourself; an admin of that workspace invites your existing email
- An invitation to an email that already has an account adds you immediately, with no acceptance step
- Password, Google or Microsoft sign-in and email verification belong to your account, so they apply to every workspace
- The switcher at the top right of the dashboard lists your workspaces and your role in each; it only appears with 2 or more
- Signing in opens the last workspace you used
- A workspace that enforces MFA asks for an emailed 6-digit code when you switch into it
- Each workspace keeps its own session, and your [role](/help/article/what-are-the-workspace-roles-in-linkbreakers) is set per workspace
- MCP clients act in one workspace, chosen on the OAuth consent screen
- API tokens belong to one workspace and are not affected

## What belongs to your account and what belongs to a workspace

| Setting | Belongs to | What that means |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Email address | Account | The same email identifies you in every workspace |
| Password | Account | A password change or reset applies to every workspace |
| Google or Microsoft sign-in | Account | Works for every workspace you belong to |
| Email verification | Account | Verify once, valid everywhere |
| Role (Admin, Viewer, Tech) | Workspace | You can be Admin in one workspace and Viewer in another |
| Session | Workspace | Switching does not sign you out of the others |
| MFA requirement | Workspace | Set by each workspace's admins |
| API tokens | Workspace | A token only ever acts in the workspace that issued it |
| Links, QR codes, visitors, analytics | Workspace | Nothing is shared between workspaces |

## How you join another workspace

You cannot create additional workspaces from your account. You get access to another workspace when one of its admins [invites you](/help/article/how-to-invite-team-members-to-linkbreakers) using the email address your account already uses.

1. The admin invites your email from **Team Members** in their workspace
2. Because that email already has a Linkbreakers account, you are added to the workspace immediately, with the role the admin picked
3. You receive an email titled "You've been added to" followed by the workspace name
4. The link in that email opens that workspace directly. If your browser is signed in to a different Linkbreakers account, it signs you out and shows the sign-in form first, so you land in the workspace with the right account

If the admin invites a different email address, such as a personal one, that invitation creates a separate account instead. Ask for the invitation to go to the email you already sign in with if you want one account for all your workspaces.

## Switch between workspaces

The workspace switcher sits at the top right of the dashboard and shows the workspace you are in. Open it to see every workspace you belong to, with your role in each, and pick one to switch.

- The switcher only appears when you belong to 2 or more workspaces
- On mobile, the same list is in the profile drawer
- When you sign in, Linkbreakers opens the last workspace you used

Each workspace keeps its own session. Switching to another workspace does not sign you out of the ones you left, so switching back is immediate unless that session has expired.

## MFA when you switch

MFA is enforced per workspace. When you switch into a workspace whose admins have [enabled MFA](/help/article/how-do-you-activate-mfa-in-linkbreakers), Linkbreakers sends a 6-digit code to your email and asks for it before opening the workspace.

- The code is valid for 15 minutes
- You can ask for a new code after 30 seconds
- Workspaces without MFA open without a code, even if another of your workspaces enforces it

## AI assistants and MCP clients

Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP clients connect through the [Linkbreakers MCP server](/help/article/mcp-server-setup) with OAuth. If you belong to several workspaces, the OAuth consent screen asks which workspace the client should use.

- The client acts in that one workspace, with the role you hold there
- To use another workspace from the same client, authorize it again and pick the other workspace
- If the chosen workspace enforces MFA, the consent screen asks for the emailed 6-digit code, with at most 8 attempts per authorization

To limit what a client can do beyond your role, request [API token scopes](/help/article/api-token-scopes) during authorization. See [How Linkbreakers works with AI agents](/help/article/linkbreakers-for-ai-agents) for every way an agent can connect.

## API tokens and the API

[API tokens](/help/article/what-are-api-tokens) belong to the workspace that created them. Belonging to several workspaces does not change what an existing token can reach, and a token never acts in another workspace.

For developers building on a member's dashboard session, two endpoints in the [Workspaces API reference](/help/api/workspaces) cover multiple workspaces:

- `GET /v1/myself/workspaces` lists the workspaces the signed-in member belongs to, with their role in each
- `POST /v1/myself/workspaces/{workspaceId}:switch` switches the session to another workspace

## For admins: removing members and deleting workspaces

- **Removing a member** removes them from your workspace only. Their account and their other workspaces stay as they are
- **Deleting a workspace** removes that workspace. Its members keep their accounts and every other workspace they belong to

## Limits and caveats

- You cannot create a second workspace yourself; only an invitation from a workspace admin gives you access to another one
- An invitation to a different email address creates a separate account, which does not share the switcher
- An MCP client is authorized for one workspace at a time
- Team member limits depend on the plan of each workspace, not on your account

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I create a new workspace from my existing account?

No. Extra workspaces come from invitations. An admin of the other workspace invites the email address you already use, and you are added immediately.

### Do I need a different password for each workspace?

No. Your password belongs to your account. Changing or resetting it applies to every workspace you belong to, and so does Google or Microsoft sign-in.

### Why don't I see the workspace switcher?

The switcher only appears when you belong to at least 2 workspaces. If you were invited under a different email address, that invitation created a separate account, and its workspace appears there instead.

### Does switching workspaces sign me out?

No. Each workspace keeps its own session, so the workspaces you leave stay signed in.

### Why am I asked for a code when I switch?

That workspace enforces MFA. Enter the 6-digit code sent to your email. It is valid for 15 minutes, and you can request a new one after 30 seconds.

### Can my AI assistant work in two workspaces?

An MCP client works in the workspace you picked on the consent screen. To use another workspace, authorize the client again and choose that workspace.

### What happens to my account if I am removed from a workspace?

Nothing else changes. You lose access to that workspace only, and keep your account and your other workspaces.
